Our juxtaposition of a room happens to be the most valuable square footage in our home: the playroom/office combo. It seems nonsensical, but for us, it’s perfect.

Pie’s playroom is where we spend the biggest chunk of our days. I am a blogger, so I “work” from home. In reality blogging is more fun than work—my blog is a place where I go to feel creative and inspired. Similarly, I also want the playroom to be a place where our daughter feels creative and inspired. In our office/playroom, my daughter and I learn, grow, explore, and imagine together. The bold and bright colors reflect that engaging atmosphere.

We pushed the furniture to the sides of the room to create empty space for play. My desk is in one corner, and I love the light that streams over it as it looks toward our backyard. The opposite corner houses a thrifted green chair where we read or where I sit and drink coffee and answer emails. I arranged the books on our IKEA shelves by color for the fun aesthetic, but what I really love is how the bins below hide the clutter of random toys.

This shared space is where creativity thrives in our home. It’s our favorite room—our happy place.
