Good Question: Best Rug for This Room?

Good Question: Best Rug for This Room?

Looks like we're not the only ones who have trouble picking out rugs. Matt, Jess and Eily are looking to replace their rug with something that a) looks good b)can withstand a toddler. See the rug they're considering and give them your tips:

We need a new rug! The rug in our living room is too small and is starting to get kind of stinky since our toddler has spilled soymilk on it several times. I saw this rug from Pottery Barn and I like the red. We have a bit of red on the walls that you can't see from the pic. I was wondering if it would look kind of neat in our living room or if it wouldn't match at all. I wasn't sure if it would look ok with the coffee table (which is not my favorite, but we cannot have wood, our darling girl destroyed two wood coffee tables already by driving her cars on them, glass/metal is indestructible).

I was thinking another beige rug would be just too much beige. I mean the walls are pink, but it's quite a beige-y pink, and the floors and furniture is kind of beige-y already. Sooo ... please, someone, help a girl out :) I'm no designer, just trying to surround myself with things I enjoy, but I don't want it to look horrible!

Hi Matt, Jess and Eily--we LOVE the idea of some color in that room. It doesn't have to be red but right now there's a whole lotta beige going on and especially with a toddler, don't be afraid to have some fun with the room. The red and white rug, a couple of red or bold pillows on the sofa and maybe a piece of artwork on the wall by the door that has some color in it would really make the room come alive.

What do you guys say? Have a better idea for an affordable rug or a color scheme they could work in?
