Modern Farm at West Elm: Get it Without Buying It

Modern Farm. Sounds like an oxymoron along the lines of plastic glasses and jumbo shrimp, doesn't it? Well that's what West Elm is calling one of their new collections and we'd be lying if we said we weren't totally into the idea, but you can pretty easily do it yourself:

the whole Modern Farm vibe is one part Scandinavian (with simple lines, smooth finishes) and one part French farmhouse (with rougher woods, blockier, chunkier legs) and we love it. It's got the comfy homey look we can actually live with mixed with some of the modern look of what we strive for (but isn't always so practical).

This is the look that Flea Markets were made for. The key is to find an old roughed up table and pair it with a more modern chair (something kind of like this). Or find an old wooden headboard and pair it with clean crisp white sheets. It's all about the juxtaposition of old and new. In fact it totally reminds us of this house tour that had old European flea market finds mixed things from, you guessed it, West Elm and Jonathan Adler. The best part about anything that combines different looks is that there's so much room to grow your collection and swap things out. Modern Farm might as well be Comfortable and Stylish which is what most of us are striving for anyway!
