AT: Green Home Readers Build in Vermont: Step Garden

"A book on Japanese house design gave us the inspiration to excavate an area in front of each window for a "step garden." This lets us have full-size windows even below-grade, and something beautiful to look at from down there. In an act of pure optimism, we installed drainage for a future soaking tub right in front of one of the gardens. Once we save up enough to put in it, we'll be able to relax with a great view of the little garden."
